Leveraging Film

The attempt to embody the real world is the central aim of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Fortunately, there are some tools already at our disposal from the medium that has made its business precisely that: the world of film. One hopes that, until the day we have sensory-empowered cyborgs moving through space, sending back data to machines, data scientists are drawing from that reconstructed world.
Here are some examples of simple shot categories that come from film. When we move through the world, we can approach, or move away from, whatever we are looking at. Machines can’t, yet. But since film approximates life, along with dialogue tied to movement in the real world, it should be integrated into the world that we are creating which reflects the one we live in.

This approach would seem to have implications and advantages that should be exploited. In a later post I’ll tie this to the Kaggle Abstraction and Reasoning Challenge.
